Tonbridge Angels Youth U9 Whites - Match Reports

  16 September 2007

Tonbridge Angels 1-1 Westerham Tigers

A pleasing start to the season for the Angels Whites. Angels started brightly with a James Haselden overhead kick going narrowly wide. The defensive partnership of Charles Newman and Jordan Stanley looked solid, and there was some fine saves from keeper Callum Marshall. Micky Cooper led the attack very well, and Kye Humphrey impressed the crowd with his ball control skills, but the first half finished goalless.

Five minutes after the break, William Tyson fired the ball into the area for James Haselden to slot the ball home. A goal on his debut for the midfielder! 1-0. Westerham equalised with a superb breakaway goal and were about to grab the winner with 1 minute to go, but were denied by an outstanding save from Jordan Stanley.

Battlebridge 1-2 Tonbridge Angels

This was a really close match, full of end-to-end action, which could have gone either way. Every Angels player gave 100%. After 14 minutes, Kye Humphrey was put through on goal, with only the keeper to beat, 1-0 Angels. Three minutes later Frankie Smith picked up the ball wide right, beat three defenders, cut inside and fired past the keeper. 2-0 to the Angels. Battlebridge pulled a goal back after a goalmouth scramble just before half-time. Battlebridge had the better of the second half, but superb defending from William Tyson meant that the Angels keeper wasn't troubled too much.

There were several candidates for Man of the Match, but the vote went to Frankie Smith. We may well have seen the goal of the season already!

Tonbridge Angels 1-0 Old Coulsdon Jets B

The match was as close as the scoreline suggests. Two perfectly matched sides battled it out in midfield, with few scoring chances. The game was decided by another Frankie Smith strike. He was put through on goal by a perfect pass from Micky Cooper, which split the Coulsdon defence. This was Frankie's second match-winning goal in the space of a week. Angels have one of the best defences in the league thanks to William Tyson and Charles Newman, and a skilful midfield partnership of Callum Marshall and Kye Humphrey. Angels have only conceded 2 goals this season and move up to third in the league.

  7 October 2007

Croydon Athletic 4-0 Tonbridge Angels

The Angels fell to their first ever defeat against a very well-organised Croydon team. The Angels never quite got going. Croydon scored in the first minute and had most of the possession and territory. Credit to the Angels for never giving up, and came close to scoring twice towards the end. It was a tough lesson for the boys, who look forward to getting back to winning ways next week.

Man of the Match: Kye Humphrey

Tonbridge Angels 7-3 Redhill Thistle

Angels got back to winning ways as they move up to 3rd place in the league. Goals from Frankie Smith, Kye Humphrey and Callum Marshall meant the Angels led 3-1 at half-time. Micky Cooper was in superb form in goal with some fine saves throughout the match. In the second half, the Angels carried on where they left off. Two more goals from Kye, a 2nd from Frankie and a well-taken goal from Jack Everson killed off Redhill.

Hamsey Rangers B 5-1 Tonbridge Angels

Angels were a bit slow out of the blocks against a very well organised Hamsey team. After 5 minutes Angels were already two goals down. Top scorer Frankie Smith scored his fifth goal in five games to put the Angels back in the match with 15 minutes to go. Brave Angels pressed forward for an equaliser, but left gaps at the back which Hamsey took advantage of with three late goals. The star of the game was goalkeeper Micky Cooper who made four outstanding saves in the dying minutes.

Tonbridge Angels 1-1 Farleigh Foxes

This really was a great game between two well matched sides. The goalkeepers were rarely troubled, with most of the game being battled out in the midfield. Farleigh took the lead in the first half, but Angels levelled the scores in the second-half when Frankie Smith scored his now traditional goal per game. James Haselden had a great game, playing some good passing football. There were fine performances from the defenders, Jordan Stanley, Charles Newman and Man of the Match William Tyson.

Tunbridge Wells Foresters Mustangs 2-0 Tonbridge Angels

It was a very brave performance from the Angels against the unbeaten league leaders. Every Angels player battled 100%, in what was a superb team effort, and it was only in the closing minutes that Tunbridge Wells sealed the game with a second goal. The defence, once again, were in fine form and goalkeeper Micky Cooper, for the second time this season, got the vote for Man of the Match with a faultless performance.

Beckenham Youth 5-2 Tonbridge Angels

Angels battled hard against a skilful Beckenham team on a bitterly cold day in South London. Angels fell behind to two early goals, but Kye Humphrey pulled one back just before half-time. Angels came out strong in the second half, and were close to equalising three times. Beckenham caught Angels out with a breakaway goal. Man of the Match, James Haselden pulled a goal back with a perfect chip over the keeper, but it wasn't enough and Beckenham scored with a further two goals on the break.

Tonbridge Angels 0-3 Oxted District

Angels paid the price for not creating chances for the strikers. Oxted took the lead in the 7th minute after the Angels defence gave too much room to the Oxted forwards. Angels had lots of possession but failed to create any real chances and two second half goals from Oxted punished the Angels. Its a huge match next week against Otford if Angels are to get their season back on track. There were good personal performances from William Tyson, Jordan Stanley and Man of the Match Jack Everson.

Otford Youth 1-2 Tonbridge Angels

This is what youth football is all about. Two sporting sides, battling it out in a thrilling contest, cheered on by a large crowd of very supportive parents. There was hardly a foul all game, and every player on the pitch was a credit to their respective clubs. It was very close throughout, with Otford taking the lead in the first half after a period of good pressure. The second-half saw Kye Humphrey beat a defender, round the keeper and equalise impressively. 1-1! The final 5 minutes saw both teams go close, but it was obvious to the crowd that there was going to be a winner, but for which side? Then up steps James Haselden with two minutes to go. From the edge of the box, he fired an unstoppable shot past the Otford keeper. What a great game of football!

Westerham Tigers 8-0 Tonbridge Angels

A tough footballing lesson for the Angels, who were outplayed by a very competitive and skilful Westerham side. Missing two key defenders, Angels never got into this game, allowing Westerham too much time and space, with only two or three players winning the 50:50 balls. A highlight for the Angels was a battling performance from Callum Marshall, who never gave up the cause. Man of the Match was William Rugg, who showed great determination all through the game, in only his second match for the club. Well done William!

  6 January 2008

Tonbridge Angels 1-0 Battlebridge

Angels took an early lead when, after only 6 minutes, Frankie Smith got on the end of a perfect cross and made no mistake. 1-0 Angels. The match then became a midfield battle with few clear cut chances. The Angels' defence was outstanding, with Jordan Stanley, William Tyson and Charles Newman allowing Battlebridge very little time on the ball. When the defence was beaten, faultless goalkeeping from Micky Cooper kept Battlebridge frustrated. Midfielder Callum Marshall was superb, and deserved his Man of the Match award with an extremely focused and energetic performance.

Westerham Tigers 6-0 Tonbridge Angels

A poor Cup performance by the Angels, who forgot the importance of simple passing and keeping their shape. Three goals in each half was a fair reflection of the game. Three players however, should feel proud of their efforts today. Jack Everson looked lively up front and was unlucky not to score. William Rugg never stopped running and tackling, and continues to improve every week. Man of the Match however, was Charles Newman. He saved the Angels on several occasions, and his determination in the tackle should set the standard for the whole squad.

Old Coulsdon Jets B 3-1 Tonbridge Angels

Angels didn't deserve to leave Surrey empty-handed after this battling performance. Frankie Smith took the lead for the Angels after 12 minutes, firing home his 9th goal of the season, from what looked like an impossible angle. On the stroke of half-time, Jets equalised after a goalmouth scramble. Angels dominated the start of the second half, and midfielder William Rugg timed a run into the box perfectly, but was unlucky to see his shot smash into the post. Against the run of play Coulsdon then took the lead. Angels threw everybody up into attack in the final stages, but paid the price, as Jets caught them out on the break. New signing Harry Millis had a promising first game for the Angels and deserved his Man of the Match award.

  3 February 2008

Redhill Thistle 2-0 Tonbridge Angels

Angels never quite got going in this tough encounter. Redhill took the lead in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, when a good corner was slotted home. Redhill added another goal midway through the second-half, and they deserved their victory. The defence had a solid game with the consistent Charles Newman looking good, and Harry Millis looked solid at the back. Frankie Smith was lively upfront, and Callum Marshall, although not fully match-fit, gave a battling performance. The Angels have shown before that they can play a lot better than this, and I am sure they will prove that in the next match.

  17 February 2008

Tonbridge Angels 0-2 Hamsey Rangers B

Angels started with a strong side and looked back on form, with great efforts at goal from Callum Marshall and Spencer Britton, which sadly failed to produce any goals for the team. Kye Humphrey was outstanding in midfield, running back and forth to defend three shots at goal off the line, which prevented it being a 5-0 defeat! Mickey Cooper was kept busy but made some fine saves. Unfortunately Hamsey fired one in during the first half and another in the second. Jordan Stanley never gave up and gained possesion back for the angels, winning Man of the Match.

  2 March 2008

Farleigh Foxes 1-3 Tonbridge Angels

Angels played some great pass and move football, and won the match with 3 superb goals, in a 10 minute spell in the first half. Frankie Smith started the scoring by cutting in from the left to fire home. A perfect cross from the right was then slotted home by William Rugg. James Haselden then lost his marker at a corner and powered his shot into the far corner of the net. Farleigh's only reply was by a penalty, which Micky Cooper did very well to save, before Farleigh scored from the rebound. The defence trio of Charles Newman, William Tyson and Jordan Stanley were outstanding, and deserve a lot of credit for this victory with a fine disciplined performance. Kye Humphrey and Callum Marshall dominated the midfield throughout the match, with Callum deserving his Man of the Match award.

Tonbridge Angels 1-10 Tunbridge Wells Foresters Mustangs

Despite the scoreline, Angels should feel proud of this battling performance, with every single player giving their all. Foresters went into half-time with a 3-1 lead, with Callum Marshall scoring with a superb curling corner kick. Special mentions go to Spencer Britton, who played some great passing football, and Jack Everson who never stopped running throughout the game. Man of the Match was Charles Newman, who impressed with his determination. The Angels won't let this result get them down, and they should feel proud of their best efforts and spirit of fair play.

  13 April 2008

Oxted District 5-1 Tonbridge Angels

A spirited performance by the Angels against a good Oxted side. Angels went in 1-down at half-time after a very close first half. Angels played the better football at the start of the second half, and deservedly levelled the scores. Man of the Match, Jack Everson beat two defenders with his skill and pace, before crossing to Kye Humphrey, who knocked the ball across the face of goal into the path of Callum Marshall, who made no mistake, 1-1. Oxted took the lead again, and as Angels pushed forward for the equaliser, they were punished 3 times by Oxted in five minutes. The match was closer than the scoreline suggests, with every player giving their all.

  18 May 2008

Tonbridge Angels 0-1 Croydon Athletic

Angels finished their league season with a spirited performance against high-flying cup winners Croydon Athletic. It was a very exciting game to watch, full of end to end football. Goalkeeper Micky Cooper was in fine form, with a faultless performance. He was supported by a very disciplined defensive line. Jordan Stanley was outstanding with a dominant defensive display, Harry Millis's tackling was very strong and Charles Newman, as always, gave 100% as an attacking right-back. Callum Marshall led the midfield very well. Kye Humphrey looked dangerous when in possesion. William Tyson covered lots of space, supporting both the defence and attack, while James Haselden gave a very brave performance with lots of last ditch tackling and blocking. William Rugg was full of his usual energy and commitment. He was involved in several crunching tackles, winning most of them. He typified what a battling performance this was by the team. The strike partnership of Frankie Smith and Jack Everson were a constant threat, and their pace and determination deserved a goal at least.

Croydon went ahead after 20 minutes with a super goal on the break. Angels rallied and pushed Croydon all the way, but Angels just couldn't grab the elusive equaliser. In the last minute, goalkeeper Micky Cooper even played as an extra striker with Angels throwing everyone forward. Despite the result, it was a satisfying end to the White's first season together. Well done.

Man of the Match: Micky Cooper
