Tonbridge Angels 1
- 4 Ebbsfleet
On a warm but fairly windy Sunday afternoon, Tonbridge Angels
under 16's began their season with a tough opening encounter with
Ebbsfleet (formerly Gravesend & Northfleet). The first 15 minutes
was fairly even with both teams coming to terms with the windy conditions
as from one clearance from our goalkeeper sailed over everyones
heads and over the oppositions crossbar. After 25 minues TAFC took
the lead. The Ebbsfleet centre half played the ball back to his
goalkeeper. The goalkeepers attempted pass to his full back fell
to Jack Brivio who slotted home from 20 yards. However the lead
was short-lived as from the next Ebbsfleet attack, a long throw
in from the edge of the penalty area was headed into the net by
their centre forward and on the stroke of half time a clearance
from one of our defenders fell to the Ebbsfleet left back who from
fully 30 yards shot into the corner of the net. HT 1-2.
To get back into the game TAFC changed from their 5-3-2 formation
to 4-4-2 and came close on a couple of occasions to draw level.
However as the game wore on it was evident that Ebbsfleets superior
fitness told and in the last 10 minutes scored with a direct free
kick and their centre forward scoring from 10 yards. In
conclusion the players of TAFC gave 100% effort to the cause and
there was no disgrace in losing to a fitter and stronger outfit.

| Hollands
& Blair 2 - 1
Tonbridge Angels
On
a warm Sunday afternoon TAFC played their first away game at the
old Rochagas ground in Gillingham . Nathan Tchie failed a late fitness
test on his ankle and was replaced up front by Aaron Hitchen. After
an even first 30 minutes, Hollands & Blair took the lead when
their centre forward latched onto a through pass and slotted the
ball home form 15 yards. HT 0-1.
TAFC came out fighting in the second half and equalised when Dan
Knights curled a 25 yard free kick into the top of the net. With
TAFC pulling all the strings it was a surprise when Hollands &
Blair took the lead again and their winger cracked a 25 yard shot
into the top of the net. FT 1-2.
A missed
opportunity to collect one or even three points from the game.

Tonbridge
Angels 2 - 1 Chatham
Town
On
another warm and windy day, TAFC entertained their local rivals
Chatham Town. With the wind in their favour in the first half,
Chatham were creating the better chances and it was no surprise
for the visitors to go in at the break with a 1-0 advantage.
With the wind in our favour in the second half TAFC were pressing
forward at every opportunity and deserved their equaliser when our
captain, Jim Bergin, curled in a twenty yard free kick from the
edge of the penalty box. TAFC were now scenting blood and “scored”
a second goal with ten minutes to go but the assistant referee disallowed
the goal for both handball and offside!!!!!!!! However
with eight minutes remaining Jordan Gallagher picked up a loose
bill on the edge of the box and fired into the net off the far post.
TAFC hung on for the remainder of the game and there was much joy
and celebration at the final whistle.
In conclusion the lads fully deserved their victory showing again
100% determination and effort.

Bergin and Jordan Gallagher

| Sheppey
United 2 - 3 Tonbridge
Angels
Challenge
Cup Round 1
On
another windy day on the Isle Of Sheppey, 13 players did battle
against Sheppey and the weather. Playing into the wind in the first
half it was no surprise when TAFC took a two goal lead after 20
minutes of play. Jack Brivio opened the scoring after playing a
neat one two with Nathan Tchie and Nathan opened his account when
he slotted home from 15 yards.
I can
only assume that the players thought it was going to be a cricket
score because for the rest of the half they simply took the feet
off the pedal as they allowed Sheppey to dictate the play and it
was no surprise when they equalised at the end of the half.
Sheppey
had the better of the early exchanges in the second half but as
the game continued TAFC started to play their passing game again
and with 10 minutes to go Nathan Tchie scored the winner with a
delightful chip from the edge of the penalty area.
Goal
Scorers: Jack Brivio - 1
Nathan Tchie - 2

| Dartford 1
- 1 Tonbridge Angels
We
arrived at Dartford ’s new stadium with only 12 players as we were
cut short over the weekend with injuries to two players and a transfer
request from another.
Dartford
’s pitch is played on a new form of Astroturf and the players were
not sure whether to wear studs or trainers.
In the
first half Dartford had more of the possession but were frustrated
by the back five of TAFC, however Dartford scored with 10 minutes
to go in the first half when a 30 yard free kick was not held by
our goalkeeper and one of their forwards stabbed home the ball from
three yards out.
At the
start of the second half TAFC suffered a major blow when Nick our
goalkeeper was injured in a collision with Dartford ’s centre forward
and had to be replaced by our right wing back Liam Baker. This set
back however seemed to galvanise TAFC and it was now TAFC who were
pressing forward in numbers. After a couple of long range efforts
from Jim our captain TAFC equalised with five minutes to go when
Jack played a neat
one two with Nathan and slotted the ball home from fifteen yards.
It was
now TAFC who were finishing the stronger and looking the likely
winners. However at the end of the day a draw was a fair result.
