Tonbridge Angels 6
- 3 Canterbury City
Friendly
With a week off
in the league programme this friendly fixture was ideal to keep
the momentum going. Both sides started by playing some good football
and it took until the twentieth minute for Angels to strike first
when Matt Green raced through to coolly score. This was followed
immediately when Jack Leeson broke and his cross found Ed Sharman
who made no mistake. Canterbury continued to try and play football
but they were again undone when a Ben Alldis pass released Sharman
who crossed for Green to grab his second. Canterbury hit the post
early in the second half but seven minutes in Sharman pounced on
a poor goal kick to finish in style. Angels already missing three
players through injury ended up playing with ten as three more went
off, however this did not stop them getting a fifth when a Leeson
through ball allowed Sharman to complete a hat trick. With Angels
now having only ten men and tiring Canterbury grabbed three goals
back however almost on the final whistle Green scored a third for
his hat trick after a Mikey Foreman through ball.

VCD Athletic 3
- 1 Tonbridge Angels
This was a timely
reminder that Angels need to be up for every game. Having beat VCD
earlier in the season by three goals the home side were motivated
throughout. After an early VCD shot Alex Wellbelove shot just wide.
VCD then missed an open goal and an Ed Sharman strike went just
over before a scramble in the Angels goal mouth on 28 minutes resulted
with the ball in the back of the net. Just before halftime a Sharman
run and shot went close to the up right. Tonbridge were slow off
the mark in the second half when they failed to react to a ball
that went loose in the penalty area and found themselves two down.
Hope was restored 10 minutes into the second half when Matt Green
was pulled down in the penalty area. Lewis Carey stepped up to reduce
the arrears. Angels then had their best spell as they started to
sense they could get a result. Sharman just failed to force the
ball into the net from a Jack Funnell cross and then Funnell went
close. Despite the rally Angels conceded again as for the second
time they failed to react first when the ball broke in the Tonbridge
penalty area. There is a fine line between getting something and
loosing and if this team are going to go on and win the league,
the desire
shown in the second half after the Angels goal needs to be remembered
as what is required, but this is needed throughout the 80 minutes.

Tonbridge Angels 5
- 1 Corinthians
Angels put their
lacklustre performance of last weekend as they went back to the
top by comprehensively beating the team that was top. Still with
an injury hit squad, this was an all round team performance that
all played their part. The game started well for Tonbridge as after
5 minutes Mikey Foreman picked up on a defensive mistake and squared
to Jack Funnell who finished with an accurate left foot strike.
After an even period chances started to arrive and Foreman and Ed
Sharman went close. Then with two minutes to go to half time Angels
doubled their lead when the ball broke to Charlie Slocombe who volleyed
in from 12 yards. The action had not finished as Tonbridge just
managed to clear a scramble in their goal mouth and broke with a
swift move to allow Alex Wellbelove to force a good save from the
Corinthian goal keeper. Angels extended their lead after 5 minutes
of the second half as a series of shots rained in and it eventually
broke to Jack Leeson to fire home. Funnell’s header was saved by
the goal keeper and then Matt Green broke through and coolly finished
for Angels fourth. On 19 minutes Funnell raced clear and pulled
the ball back for Leeson to score. On 27 minutes Corinthian scored
a consolation
goal after ill discipline in the Tonbridge defence. However Angels
finished the stronger and further chances fell to Sharman and Green.
This was a good performance that should encourage the belief that
with hard work they could win the league.

Scorers: Jack
Funnell, Charlie Slocombe, Jack
Leeson - 2, Matt Green |

Tonbridge Angels 10
- 0 Loose Lions
Kent Cup
- Round 2
This
fixture had to be played at Tonbridge due to unsuitability of the
Loose Lions ground which allowed Angels greater space to exploit
their opponents. Apart from a superb one handed save by Lewis Carey
in the Tonbridge goal Loose attacks were rare. In the first half
Angels failed to capitalise on their greater possession and the
quality of passing was not up to the usual standard. To their credit
Loose battled well to stay in the game, however by half time Tonbridge
were three up through Ed Sharman, Jack Leeson and Mikey Foreman.
Angels found their feet in the second half and started to open up
the space. The lead was extended through a Jack Funnell hat trick,
Charlie Slocombe and a second for Foreman. There was a bonus as
the long time injured Brett Milham came on in the last 10 minutes
to score a brace. One pleasing aspect to today’s game was the overall
discipline shown by both players and supporters throughout allowing
the referee to do his job at difficult moments.
Goal
Scorers:
Jack Funnell - 3, Brett Milham
-2, Mikey Foreman -2, Jack Leeson,
Charlie Slocombe and Ed Sharman
