Angels
have not scored for four games and did not get the rub of the green.
In the first half Jack Funnell had four chances including a good
save from a header. Josh Thorneycroft had a shot stopped by the
in form Crockenhill keeper. The only goal was after 15 minutes of
the second half a long range free kick eluded everybody and glanced
in off the far post. Whilst Angels did not play at their best second
half they still had good chances through shots from Eddie Sharman
and Brett Milham that went just wide.
This was
a match full of commitment from two good teams. There were very
few chances on both sides as both teams defensively cancelled each
other out. For the record Angels best chances came through Brett
Milham, Jack Leeson, an Ed Sharman free kick that hit the bar and
a Josh Thorneycroft header. When Lewis Carey in the Tonbridge goal
was called in to action 2 minutes before the end, he made an excellent
save.
It was
a credit to both sides that they played some excellent football
on a pitch in poor condition. With Bromley likely to be champions
it shows the standard of the Angels team as they have taken four
points from them in their league encounters. The game remained evenly
balanced in the first half with the midfield of Alex Wellbelove,
Josh Thorneycroft, Jack Leeson and Gregory Keddy working maintaining
control. The back four of Charlie Slocombe, Mark Simcox, George
Benner and Sam Wing were winning all their challenges and had the
reassuring figure of Ben Aldis behind them. Matt Green and Brett
Milham kept the Bromley defence on their toes and it was Milham
on 23 minutes who couldn’t quite squeeze the ball past the Bromley
keeper when one on one. Simcox had a speculative shot before the
best move of the half saw Milham and Green combine to set up a Wellbelove
shot that went just over. Just before halftime a Leeson corner was
touched onto the bar by the Bromley goal keeper. In the second half
Bromley broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when Angels midfield
failed to track back. This spurred Tonbridge on and Jack Funnell
came close. Five minutes later a cross by Ed Sharman opened up the
Bromley defence to allow Milham to finish from close range. In the
last five minutes first Bromley hit the bar and Funnell and Jack
Parks went close. This was a game of great commitment by all the
squad.
