The
three week Christmas break did not affect Angels as they very efficiently
saw off Lewisham to remain top of the Kent Youth League. This was
the first occasion that all players were available and it was good
to welcome back the long term injured, Mark Simcox. Angels first
chance was a Brett Milham free kick that went over but on 18 minutes
Milham put Tonbridge one up when he connected at the back post with
an Eddie Sharman corner. Lewisham were restricted to long range
efforts and found themselves further behind as a Gregory Keddy through
ball released Milham to fire home. After 3 minutes of the second
half Alex Wellbelove shot just over. Then after 10 minutes a Jack
Funnell corner found Sam Wing who volleyed home. Charlie Slocombe
went narrowly wide and then with 10 minutes to go Angels sealed
the win when Simcox found Jack Leeson and his cross was clinically
finished by Matt Green. All 16 players contributed to one of their
most solid and professional performances.

With most matches postponed Angels took advantage to extend their
lead to five points at the top of the Kent Youth League. Angels
did make heavy weather in killing off the game as chance after chance
passed by. It could have been worse if Lewis Carey in the Tonbridge
goal had not made two excellent saves when faced with one on ones
with the Crockenhill strikers. In the first half Angels pressed
and chances fell to Jack Funnell, Mikey Foreman, Brett Milham and
Matt Green but it would not go in. For 23 minutes of the second
half it was the same pattern as Funnell hit the bar and forced a
good save from the goal keeper. Eddie Sharman was also denied by
the stopper. However the deadlock was broken when a quick ball was
played out of defence by Mark Simcox to Sharman who ran on to score.
It did not fall right for Tonbridge today and on another day it
would have been a much heavier win. Again all the squad contributed
to this important victory.
Fair play to Ramsgate that they kept going but the game was one
way traffic. Angels did well to keep the discipline particularly
in the second half and look forward to a quarter final tie at home
to Bromley on 24th February.
