Glebe FC 7
- 1 Tonbridge Angels
The
Angels season started with a harsh lesson. With a centre-half in
goal and a makeshift back line, the boys held their own for the
first fifteen minutes. From then on it was backs to the wall stuff
with "Man of the Match" Garwood battling consistently
for the whole 70 minutes. The Angels took the lead with a through
ball to Murrain who finished beautifully with a right foot lob.
Though every player worked hard, that was the highlight of the Angels
day. A string of injuries to key players saw boys having to cover
in unfamiliar positions. 2-1 down at half-time the 2nd half was
all one way traffic which lead to the team conceding five more.
A tough match against a well organised and physical side, I’m sure
the Angels will learn from it.

Angels 4 - 1 Corinthians
A
great game to watch between two footballing sides of equal stature.
The Angels were able to get back to their passing game and more
importantly, having learnt from last week, closed down the Corinthians
not allowing them time on the ball. The opposition started strong,
taking the lead after 9 minutes which seemed to kick-start the Angels.
From then on the back-line looked solid and with "Man of the
Match" Skillen (GK) dominating his area and Green and Garwood
strong in central midfield this allowed Murrain to net 2 before
the break. Corinthians started strong again but Ricketts, Allen
and Tudor-Pole really came into their own. Swift passing moves and
great movement saw the Angels create chance after chance. Murrain
was rewarded for his tireless running by completing his hat-trick
and Tudor-Pole added the 4th with a great strike from the edge of
the box. It was end to end, with both sides playing in a fair and
pleasing way.
Goal Scorers: Jackson Murrain - 3
Jeremy Tudor-Pole - 1
Man of
the Match: Conor Skillen (GK)
- Sure Handling, Communication and Domination of his Area.

Angels 4 - 6 Blackheath
Wanderers
The
old cliché “a tale of two halves” has to be used for this game.
After a slightly sluggish start the Angels seemed to get to grips
with the oppositions movement and took the lead with a calm finish
by Allen. After a period of swapping attacks, Blackheath equalised
which then lead to a period of dominance by the Angels. Chance after
chance was created and eventually a beautifully struck, well earned
goal by Murrain rewarded the Angels for their attacking play. A
composed finish by Leek with the outside of the right foot saw the
Angels leading by 3-1 at half-time. And now the cliché kicks in.
A slight adjustment to Blackheath’s formation saw the ever retreating
Angels midfield give ground, inviting the opposition on to them.
Four unanswered goals within the first 12 minutes of the second
half was too much for the Angels to recover. With the attacking
players isolated any chance of a comeback was snuffed out. The only
highlight at the end was a sweetly struck finish by "Man of
the Match" Allen. Blackheath rounded off the scoring 3 minutes
later.
Goal
Scorers: George Allen - 2 Jackson
Murrain - 1 Tom Leek - 1
Man of
the Match: George Allen - Outstanding Allround
Performance

Angels 3 - 2 Phoenix
Sports
Challenge
Cup Round 1
Another
slow start for the Angels against an average Phoenix side led to
it being an evenly contested half. The opposition used the Angels
lack of desire to take the lead after 25 mins. As usual this kick
started the boys to begin competing and move the ball around. Good
control by Garwood gave him time to look up and slide a great ball
through for Murrain to calmly slot home after a few earlier near
misses. The second half saw few clear cut chances for either side.
Phoenix were rewarded after a period of pressure with a great volleyed
finish from a corner. With the Angels on the back foot and unable
to consistently keep hold of the ball it looked as if they were
out of the cup. Seeming to realise this the boys moved up a gear
with "Man of the Match" Clements adding to his solid defensive
play with a couple of overlaps which caused Phoenix problems. With
the clock ticking Keens grabbed an equaliser in the 66th minute
only to then seal the win with a stunning half volley. Unfortunately
for him he was booked for removing his shirt in celebration. Assured
handling from Shimmin and a skilful and determined game for Tudor-Pole.
The Angels made hard work of it but are through to the next round.
Goal
Scorers: Jackson Murrain - 1
Jack Keens - 2
Man of
the Match: Ben Clements - Solid Performance

Arrows 6 - 4 Tonbridge
Angels
I
am still not sure how the Angels lost this one! The small pitch
made it very congested and hampered the Angels with their passing
and movement. An untidy game but the Angels never looked to be in
trouble. Healy looking comfortable on his debut and Tudor-Pole,
Garwood, Clements and Bender deserving a mention. Angels took the
lead after 5 minutes with a goal from Murrain. A lovely casual strike
into the top corner by Green was only answered by Crayford from
a hit crossbar and an unmarked player scoring with a header from
a corner before half-time. After 42 minutes “Man-of-the-Match” Allen
created an opportunity for himself with skill and determination
finishing with a powerful drive into the bottom corner. 3-2 after
45 minutes an accurate powerful goal-kick over-the-top from Shimmin
allowed Murrain to run on and pass the ball into the bottom corner.
4-2 after 48 minutes, then I wish someone could tell me what happened!
In the space of 3 minutes Crayford scored 3 times one straight in
from a free kick with the Angels seeming to be unable to re-group
after the first of these. Angels stopped marking effectively and
seemed to be stuck on the back foot. A goal from Crayford direct
from a corner put an end to any chance the Angels had of recovering.
Goal
Scorers: Jackson Murrain - 2, George
Allen - 1, David Green - 1
Man of
the Match: George Allen - Consistency, Battling
and Composure on the Ball
