Tonbridge Angels 3 - 6  Erith & Belvedere

Erith & Belvedere 14-10-07 An entertaining match, with the Angels looking like they are really starting to gel. After 5 minutes a perfect through ball to “Man of the Match” Murrain allowed him to finish with composure. With Allen and Tudor-Pole busy in midfield the Angels started to get a grip of this game. A ball over the top for Murrain to chase, control, beat two defenders and the Erith keeper saw the Angels go 2 up. The boys continually caught Erith off-side with Greenstock having his best game of the season so far. Clements ever consistent, with Skillen vocal and commanding. It was then a sign of things to come when the oppositions midfielder was allowed to play a through ball for Erith to finish on a one-on-one. With half-time looming the Angels collectively switched-off and as seems to be the story of the season so far, 3 unanswered goals in rapid succession left us wondering how we were down 4-2 at the break. A fast start in the second-half with plenty of pressure gave Green the opportunity to score with a beautiful lob over Eriths keeper. 4-3 with 10 minutes to go the Angels looked like they were going to equalise but either tiredness or lack of concentration saw Erith grab 2 more in the final 3 minutes. If the Angels continue to play like this results will surely come.

Goal Scorers: Jackson Murrain - 2 and David Green - 1

Man of the Match: Jackson Murrain - Tireless running and battling commitment.

Tonbridge Angels  3 - 7  Real 60

Challenge Cup - Round 2

Real 60 Challenge Cup 21-10-07Angels started as the stronger team with Real 60 struggling to get out of their own half. Real 60 scored on 6 minutes against the run of play. Allen and Greenstock combined well on the left to create chances but Real scored again.  The Angels were repaid for their hard work with Murrain showing pace and scoring the Angels first of the match.

After half time the Angels came out strong and equalised almost immediately with Murrain scoring his second.

Real regained the lead minutes later through an unfortunate own goal. The Angels battled on with Allen creating two good chances minutes later. Then a well struck free kick by Murrain and a well timed run and controlled touch by Hillier brought the Angels the equaliser they deserved.

Real went on to score their fourth ten minutes from the final whistle. The team changed formation in an attempt to draw level in this knock-out cup game but Real's pace up front was too much for the Angels depleted remaining defence. Real went on to score a further 3 goals before the final whistle blew.

This was an unflattering scoreline for an Angels team that played good flowing football and deserved more.

Goal Scorers:   Jackson Murrain - 2 and Henry Hillier - 1

Man of the Match:   Sam Jones - Consistency, battling and composure under pressure.

Phoenix Sports  2 - 5  Tonbridge Angels

Phoenix Sports 28-10-07A real ‘welcome to winter’ day. Both teams started brightly with the Angels midfield seeming to gain the upper-hand, anchored by a solid display from Garwood. The Angels opened the scoring after 6 minutes with a through ball from Skillen to Murrain who sidestepped the keeper and squared it for Leek to tap in. Phoenix pulled it back to 1-1 after the defence failed to clear and though the opposition had a few more chances, the Angels really started to get a grip of the game on the back of fantastic displays by Clements and ‘Man of the Match’ Healy. Murrain got the first of his 2 with a stunning right foot shot that left the keeper no chance, but again the Angels were pulled back to all square after a mix-up at the back left keeper Shimmin exposed to give away a penalty. After half-time it was end to end stuff but the Angels grabbed hold of the game after 45 minutes. Good pressure from the midfield gave Murrain the chance to grab his 2nd in a one-on-one situation. Allen grabbed the 4th after yet another fantastic allround display and Ricketts was rewarded for his non-stop hard work and good positioning with a left foot screamer right on the whistle. A much better display and thoroughly deserved victory.

Goal Scorers:   Tom Leek - 1, Jackson Murrain - 2, George Allen - 1 and Jonathan Ricketts - 1

Man of the Match:   Tadgh Healy - Discipline and determination.
