Score: Tonbridge Angels 3 - United Allstars 1

A magnificent team performance in the semi-final of the Tandridge League Cup saw Angels put paid to the cup chances of another A division side, the third of the competition.

A closely fought first half with limited clear-cut goal scoring opportunities, but particularly notable for some excellent midfield tackling from Charles George and Charlie Watkins, meant that honours were even at half time. However, in the second half, Angels stepped up a gear and started to play with much more fluency. The deadlock was broken nine minutes into the half, but was more down to luck than judgement. A speculative high goal-wards lob from Ziyad Ghali was fumbled by the goalkeeper and the ball dropped into the net. That immediately instilled more urgency into the play of both teams with Angels taking greater advantage, as three minutes later a cross from the left by Will Jupp found Sam Latham unmarked at the edge of the six yard box at the far post and he calmly fired the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

With more daylight between the scores there then followed a sustained period of attacking play by Angels culminating in Man of the Match, Johnny Phillips, breaking away on the left and thundering a shot across the goalkeeper into the corner of the net after 20 minutes. However, the clean sheet was to be denied three minutes from the end when a Tonbridge defender was adjudged to have jumped into the back of an Allstars striker and the referee awarded a penalty. Daniel Blades, in the Tonbridge goal, got his hand to the penalty kick but could not get enough on it to keep it out.

The cup final will be held at the stadium of Whyteleafe FC on Sunday 29 April at 2.30pm where Angels will play another A division side, Langley Hawks.
